Easy Maple Syrup Walnut Cake Recipe
A delicious cake with a maple syrup and walnut frosting. Could also be baked as a maple syrup walnut cupcake. You can replace sugar with splenda for a healthier version. Top with a nice cake decoration.

- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 tablespoons baking powder
- 1/2 cup milk
- 3/4 cup solid vegetable shortening
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- 3/4 cup ground walnuts
- 1/2 cup butter
- 2 egg whites
- 1/2 cup maple syrup (for icing)
- Whip shortening, sugar, maple syrup and eggs together until smooth.
- Add the flour, baking powder and half of the walnuts then whip some more.
- Pour into 2 cake pans. Bake 40 minutes at 350 degrees F.
- Meanwhile, whip egg whites and slowly add butter, maple syrup and walnuts to create your icing.
- Layer the cake then spread the icing.
