Easy Maple Syrup Walnut Cake Recipe

A delicious cake with a maple syrup and walnut frosting. Could also be baked as a maple syrup walnut cupcake. You can replace sugar with splenda for a healthier version. Top with a nice cake decoration.

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons baking powder
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 3/4 cup solid vegetable shortening
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 3/4 cup ground walnuts
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup (for icing)
  1. Whip shortening, sugar, maple syrup and eggs together until smooth.
  2. Add the flour, baking powder and half of the walnuts then whip some more.
  3. Pour into 2 cake pans. Bake 40 minutes at 350 degrees F.
  4. Meanwhile, whip egg whites and slowly add butter, maple syrup and walnuts to create your icing.
  5. Layer the cake then spread the icing.
