Best Homemade Mexican Pie Recipe

A spicy ground beef pie with Mozzarella Cheese. Could be done with chicken, turkey or pork instead of beef for a more healthy recipe. Serve with a tomato or brown sauce.

  • 1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie
  • 2 lb ground veal
  • 1/2 cup Grated Monterey Jack Cheese
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup green bell peppers
  • 1/2 cup chili sauce
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup sweet relish
  • 1 teaspoon tabasco
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  1. Preheat oven to 425°F
  2. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat then brown the ground veal for 5 minutes.
  3. Add the onion and green bell pepper and cook for 10 minutes.
  4. Add the rest of the ingredients except the cheese and pastry and cook for 5 minutes.
  5. Line a deep 9 inch pie plate with pastry. Spoon in filling, spreading evenly.
  6. Spread the cheese evenly over the mix.
  7. Cover with top crust.
  8. Bake for 15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
