Best French Canadian Tourtiere Recipe

Old Fashioned French Canadian meatpie. A recipe from Quebec(Canada). Use ground turkey or chicken for a healthy recipe. Also called "tourtiere." Serve with brown sauce.

  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 1/2 lb ground veal
  • 1 chopped onion
  • Salt & pepper
  • water
  • 1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground clove
  1. Pour the meat and onions in a large saucepan and add water until you reach the top of the meat
  2. Bring to a boil then reduce heat and simmer uncovered while stirring occasionally until the meat begins to stick on the bottom of the pan; add the cinnamon and clove near the end
  3. Add salt and pepper, adjust to your taste
  4. Preheat oven at 400° F
  5. Pour the mix in the 9 inch pastry and cover with top pastry
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown
